All our professionals at Richard Guerin, DDS maintain the highest levels of accreditation and pursue ongoing education to stay abreast of the latest trends in dentistry.

Dr. Richard A. Guerin

Dr. Richard Guerin is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in Philadelphia, one of the finest dental schools in the world.  Dr. Guerin has had years of experience in performing dentistry of the highest quality in general dentistry, periodontics, implantology, orthodontics, and surgery.

Having participated in extensive continuing education studies in these areas, Dr. Guerin enjoys helping patients with even the most complicated problems to save as much tooth and bone structure as possible.

Before becoming a dentist, Dr. Guerin received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology, taught Atomic Physics at the college level, and designed chemical plants for E. I. Dupont de Nemours and Company. These talents are now focused on taking care of his dental patients.

In addition to dentistry, his interests include photography, jewelry design and fabrication, boating, and enjoying the many outdoors pleasures of living in Hawaii.  He’s been hooked on Hawaii since he lived here with his family and attended the University of Hawaii.

His professional memberships include the American Dental Association, Hawaii Dental Association, International Congress of Oral Implantology, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Peer Review - Dr. Mark Fried

I would very much like to say a few words on behalf of my colleague, Dr. Guerin.  I have been in practice for 27 years and have had the opportunity to speak to many dentists and be acquainted with their work.  I can honestly say that I have never seen any more excellent treatment that that provided by Dr. Guerin. His breadth of practice is amazing.

For instance, Dr. Guerin not only places implants surgically, but restores the implants when they are ready for restoration.  This saves the patient from having the implants placed in one office and having to go to another office to have them restored.  Dr. Guerin has had extensive training in all areas of dentistry so you will rarely need to visit a specialist’s office.  In treatment planning, Dr. Guerin shows the patient his present needs and the various treatment options available.  Dr. Guerin treats every patient as though that patient is a member of Dr. Guerin’s own family.  You will not be pressured to accept treatment you don’t want.  The most important member of the Guerin Dental Team is the patient.  Continuing education is a must in Dr. Guerin’s office – a goal which takes him to many parts of the country and world.  His background as a chemical engineer and teacher of atomic physics at the college level provide an outstanding background for evaluating complex dental problems.

Dr. Guerin believes that saving as much of patient’s own natural tooth and bone structure is a priority, and that aesthetics is also important and may help the patient in all areas of his professional and personal well-being.

Best wishes to all of Dr. Guerin’s present and future patients.

Dr. Fried has taught at Tufts University Dental School and presently is in private practice in Wayland, Massachusetts.

Kay Berglund – Hygienist

Kay Berglund, our hygienist, is not only an excellent hygienist, but active in our community.  A graduate of Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, Kay received the highest grade in her class of 93 students on her National Written Hygiene Board.

Kay’s main love is providing her patients with the knowledge they need to retain their teeth, their smiles and prevent unnecessary dental problems, as well as other related health problems.

The experience and knowledge she has gained during her more than 35 years of practice, are a direct benefit to her patients – and although very thorough, she is also extremely gentle.

Kay, originally a mid-westerner who began life in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, has lived in Hawaii since 1975 – and loves all things Hawaiian.  An avid sailor, Kay lived on her boat for 12 years while sailing the islands.  She is a volunteer for the “Protect Kahoolawe Island Ohana”, loves camping, and is doing a High Sierra Camps hike this coming fall.  She contributes to the community by devoting considerable time as a State of Hawaii Medical Reserve Corps volunteer and is respected by her colleagues as illustrated by her being on the Testing Board for the State of Hawaii Dental Hygiene Examination for ten years.

We, and our patients, are extremely fortunate to have Kay on board.
